La Varaizienne - our local boulangerie serving you croissants

Our local boulangerie

team at the boulangerie La Varaizienne

La Varaizienne is our local boulangerie, located in the village of Varaize just 3km away.
For the first few years of living here the old boulangerie offered a delivery service, which was fab. The lovely French delivery lady would stop right outside the gites at both La Grange du Moulin and Les Vallaies and beep. Everyone would come out and buy the fresh bread, croissants and chocalatines. She'd help the children learn to count in French whilst counting out the change, it was great. The owners then retired and no one took over, so for many years we were without a local boulangerie.

The commune in Varaize listened to the demands of the locals and built two new outlets, one specifically for a boulangerie and one for a health centre (Doctor, midwife, physio etc) In 2019 Vanessa and Mickael took on the tenancy and La Varaizienne was born. They have been running a boulangerie on the coast for many years, so have great experience but they wanted to expand and the commune of Varaize gave them that chance.

The boulangerie is also a small epicerie - selling basic chilled and dried goods too such as pasta, biscuits, crisps, soft drinks, butter and ham. They offer a café service too with tables and chairs both inside and outside on a terrace overlooking a play area; also built by the commune. They also offer a takeaway (or eat in) pizza service.

Bread and cakes

They have a delicious array of different breads, from regular baguette and pain to walnut and maize breads and our favourite the 'Kapnor' which is a delicious bread made of wheat, barley and rye flours plus rich in sunflower, sesame, flax and soy seeds .

Their cakes are also gorgeous ! They'll make them to order if you give them notice for a birthday or anniversary.

Pizzas to eat in or takeaway

From Monday to Saturday service is from 11.30 to 13.00 and 18.30 to 20.00 (21.00 on Fri/Sat) Closed on Wednesday.
If you order at around 18.30 to 19.00 you shouldn't have to wait long at all, but after that it gets busy so there could be a delay of an hour or more, so think ahead ! We can ring in an order for you which you can then collect.

Prices range from 8€50 for a basic ham and cheese pizza to 12€50 for a 4 meat pizza

Café and shop

As mentioned previously you could pop in and choose a cake and enjoy a coffee whilst watching the children play. There is a small enclosed childrens playground, ideal for little ones plus a basketball court for the older ones to run around in whilst you sit on the terrace with your delicious cakes !

Alternatively we have a good running route for those who want to earn their morning croissants. It takes you cross country and down small lanes rather than along the main road so ends up being a bit more than a 10km round trip. Download and Log into Strava to get the route.
